What's Included in a Foreign Employment Medical Test in Nepal?
Government-licensed center
DoFE-recognized reports
Walk-ins welcome
If you are applying for foreign employment from Nepal, a government-approved medical checkup is a required step before your labour permit process can move forward. This guide explains what is included in a foreign employment medical test in Nepal — labs, chest X-ray, ultrasound, and more — so you know what to expect before you walk in.
At Asian Plus Medical Center (Samakhusi-10, Tokha, Kathmandu, behind City Square Mall), we provide licensed foreign-employment and visa medical checkups, plus lab tests, chest X-ray, and ultrasound. We are a medical center — we do not process visas or manpower paperwork.

Why This Medical Test Matters
Foreign employment medicals protect workers and employers by screening for conditions that matter for overseas work. Only government-approved medical institutions can issue reports accepted for this purpose, per the Department of Foreign Employment's official listing notice. A general private checkup from an unlisted clinic is not the same thing.
Who Needs This Test
Foreign employment / labour permit applicants
If you are leaving Nepal for work and need a medical report for your labour permit (FEIMS) or destination process, you need a foreign-employment medical at an approved center.
How this differs from a general health checkup
A routine full-body checkup is for personal health. A foreign-employment medical follows the government-approved panel for migrant workers, includes imaging such as chest X-ray, and produces a report used in the official process. For a personal package, see our lab tests page.
What the Medical Test Includes
Below is the typical panel used under the current standard — the older, narrower list, not the brief November 2025 expansion that was later cancelled by the government. Your exact list can vary slightly by form or destination; ask at the desk when you arrive.
Physical examination
- Doctor consultation and medical history
- Vitals (including blood pressure) and general physical assessment
Laboratory (blood, urine, stool)
- CBC (Hb, TC, DC, ESR, platelets)
- Blood grouping
- Blood sugar
- Kidney function (urea, creatinine)
- Liver function (bilirubin, SGPT, SGOT, gamma GT)
- Lipid profile and total protein (as required)
- HIV, HBsAg (Hepatitis B), Anti-HCV (Hepatitis C)
- VDRL/RPR (syphilis)
- Malaria (MP/MF), typhoid (as required)
- Urine routine, stool routine
- Pregnancy test for female applicants where applicable
For more on individual assays, see our full lab menu.
Chest X-ray and TB screening
Chest X-ray is a standard TB screening tool even if you feel healthy. Some cases also use Mantoux (TB skin test) — see our Mantoux Test page for details. Mantoux reading needs about 72 hours, so that part of your report will take longer.
Ultrasound (USG)
Abdomen/pelvis ultrasound ("video x-ray") is commonly part of the panel. Details and pricing for standalone scans: Ultrasound / Video X-Ray in Kathmandu.
ECG and other checks
ECG is often required for older applicants (commonly around age 40+) or certain job types. Audiometry may apply for specific roles. Extra forms (for example stool culture for Croatia Obrazac 18a) are separate and can extend report time — see our Croatia Form 18a guide.
Destination Notes (Medical Only)
We explain the medical side only — not how to get a visa.
UAE and Kuwait
Asian Plus generally performs UAE and Kuwait medicals. We are not a Wafid/GAMCA listed center. If your agency or employer has already assigned you to a Wafid/GAMCA center, you should complete the medical there. If you are not locked to that system, we can run the required tests here. More: UAE/Dubai medical · Kuwait medical.
Malta, Romania, and Greece
For these destinations we use the standard foreign-employment panel — no special extra test list beyond what the form requires. Country pages: Malta · Romania · related Greece medical content on our site.
Note: We do not offer medical packages marketed for Oman, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, or Malaysia.
What FIT and UNFIT Mean
FIT means you meet the health standard for the intended work/destination under current rules. UNFIT means a finding does not meet that standard for that job or destination. Some conditions can be treated and re-tested; others may not qualify for that specific role. Outcomes are case-by-case — talk to the doctor about next steps.
Report timing at Asian Plus
- Usual: PDF reports are often sent to your WhatsApp by about 9–10 PM the same day, or within 24 hours.
- Longer when: stool culture (e.g. Obrazac 18a), outsourced tests, or Mantoux (72 hours) are required.
After the medical, approved centers typically share results with the Department of Foreign Employment's system as part of the labour-permit process. You can verify your own report's authenticity on our Verify Medical Report page.
Documents to Bring
- Original passport (+ photocopy)
- Citizenship / national ID as backup
- 1–2 recent passport-size photos
- Job offer / demand letter reference if you already have one
- Prior medical records, prescriptions, or vaccination cards if relevant
- Payment for the package fee
Common Myths About the Medical Test
Myth
Fact
"Reports always come same day."
Often yes by WhatsApp PDF evening — but Mantoux, cultures, and outsourced tests take longer.
"I must fast for everything."
Only some blood tests need fasting. Ask when you book or arrive.
"Any clinic's report is fine."
Only government-approved listed centers issue accepted foreign-employment reports.
"Every country has the same extras."
Core panel is similar; Gulf Wafid routing and special forms can differ.
"The 34-test / NPR 9,500 rule is current."
That November 2025 change was scrapped in December 2025. The earlier NPR 6,500 / narrower panel is the current baseline.
