According to the Ministry of Health and Population (MOHP), 77% of Nepal’s population has received at least one dose of the Covid vaccination, and 69% has received the entire recommended dose. People who receive the vaccine are given a Covid vaccine card, which contains information on the vaccine and their personal information.
A representative of the vaccination center signs the card, but it does not serve as a legitimate proof of immunization, especially when traveling overseas. To demonstrate that they have got the complete dose of the Covid vaccinations, travelers must get a certificate from the Government of Nepal that is digitally signed.
Nevertheless, what exactly is a Covid vaccine certificate with a QR code, and how can you get one? Find out now.
A coded certificate for the Covid vaccination
The term “QR” stands for the pixelated, square-shaped barcodes used to record data like web addresses, links to download apps, and bank account information. Depending on the information stored in it, the code’s organization changes. A smartphone and scanning software or application makes it simple to read a QR code. Nowadays, the majority of smartphones come equipped with apps and QR code scanners.
The Government of Nepal has utilized the same widely used technology to issue Covid vaccine certificates in order to make it easier to save and access information about the vaccination.
After receiving the Covid vaccine, recipients are given a card with their personal information and data about the vaccination. Beneficiaries may apply for a digital certificate with a QR code after receiving all necessary vaccinations. Upon request, the ministry and neighborhood health departments must present these documents. The certificate with the QR code has “information about full-dose immunization that is saved digitally in a QR code that can be scanned all over the world,” according to Dr. Rudra Prasad Marasini, the director of the management division at the ministry.
What makes you require it?
The Covid vaccine certificate with a QR code serves as verification that the recipient has received the recommended dosage of the Covid vaccine. The Department of Health Services under the MOHP and the relevant local government’s health departments have verified this certificate.
The MOHP website, which can be accessed via the QR code, provides details on the beneficiary, the vaccine, and the immunization date.
How do you get your hands on it?
Beneficiaries must first obtain a complete dose of the Covid vaccination in order to be qualified to apply for a Covid vaccine certificate with a QR code. Once they have a physical card, they can use https://vaccine.mohp.gov.np/public-request-form to submit an online application for a QR code. The form prompts beneficiaries to furnish the vaccine’s name and batch number. It also asks them to provide details about the date and location of vaccination.
Beneficiaries are required to supply the following papers after providing these details.
- A passport or certificate of citizenship
- A passport-size picture Covid vaccination card
- After applying, the beneficiaries are given a registration number (0000-000000-0000Y).
Beneficiaries must travel to the vaccination center if the names of the local government, the vaccination center, or the stamp are not legible on the card. The application for Covid vaccine certificates with QR codes is rejected due to illegible supporting documentation.
Can you apply for it offline?
The easiest way to receive a Covid vaccine certificate with a QR code is to apply online. However, if the beneficiaries are not in a position to apply online, they can submit a printed form along with required documents to a concerned local government or the Department of Health Services, says Dr. Marasini. These institutions then scan and upload the form to the system.
How can I access my vaccine card?
The government’s intention is to give the code to applicants right away, but Dr. Marasini claims that because of a backlog, it can take up to seven days to validate and deliver the code. However, if applicants need something quickly, they can get in touch with the department or the local government.
Applicants can log on to https://vaccine.mohp.gov.np/verify-status to get their Covid vaccine certificate. They can download their vaccination certificate after providing their registration number. Additionally, they get access to it via the Nagarik app.
Are you planning on taking it domestically?
According to Yog Raj Sharma Kandel, the spokesperson for the Airlines Operators Association, you do not need to have it for domestic travel. “For domestic flights, passengers must have a vaccination card issued by the vaccination center. But it’s not necessary to have a QR code, he says South Asia Check.
How much does it cost?
The Nepali government offers it as a complimentary service. Beneficiaries are not obliged to pay any money at any point during the application procedure.
